Wohlfahrt's 40 Elementary Studies, Op. 54, focuses on the basics of violin-playing, like finger patterns, intonation, tone, and bow distribution. In addition, these first-position exercises are intended to develop different basic bow strokes, like staccato and martele; and develop speed and agility in the left hand.
